Literacy and Reading

Books not only spark joy and wonder, they open a world of endless possibility for readers of all ages.  We support efforts across FCPS to bring the magic of reading to our students.

Addressing Summer Learning Loss

Educate Fairfax is proud to partner with Bookworm Central to provide age-level appropriate reading materials to students who might otherwise not have access to books over the summer months.  The amazing team at Bookworm Central works with teachers to curate titles and track student progress to make sure they start the new school year ready to meet the challenges ahead.

This pilot program was implemented at three FCPS elementary schools during the summer of 2023 with the hope of expanding to more schools in the near future.

Cox Communications donated $5,000 to provide reading opportunities to our youngest Pre-K/Head Startstudents during the summer months.

Multicultural books were provided to our Korean and Hispanic Early Literacy families at seven FCPS schools.  The families receiving these books were eager to help their young readers share the joy of books.

in memory of longtime FCPS librarian Judith Diesenhaus, donated funds were used to create an online audiobook catalogue. More than 200 titles are available for free download to high school students across the county.
